It's hard to find a more dedicated fan base than Shield TV owners. ![]() Nvidia granted them a belated Christmas gift just a couple of weeks ago with a long-awaited update to Android TV 11, but unfortunately, it wasn't all sunshine and roses. Thankfully, a new fix is on its way to help relieve many of those issues.Ī bunch of apps, including Plex, were outright broken after the upgrade. Version 33.1.0.264 started making its way to users on January 20th, bringing a whole host of changes to Shield TV models and - most importantly - restoring those Plex issues. That hotfix included an updated variant of the Plex Media Server app meant to solve issues with external storage, problems initially caused by the jump to Android 11. Google's 2020 release utilizes scoped storage for improved privacy, limiting the number of directories accessible by apps. It’s connected to our 58 4K Samsung TV and became the hub for our family’s media consumption, though getting things to that point was quite more involved than I would have liked. why is it giving me trouble? Any setting I should tweak or change? I'm debating whether to just use the Shield for watching and just get a NAS to host & transcode the Plex content instead but I really want it to be last resort because of the pricing.Plex wasn't the only app affected by this change - Kodi and VLC were among those listed - but it was by far the highest-profile. I bought an Nvidia Shield (2017 model) on sale for 140 at the end of 2018 and am amazed by how much this tiny device can accomplish. I thought the Shield was advertised as a good enough Plex server to use by 1 person. But obviously I want a low power setup to use for the TV. I ensured that the file is fine by playing it on PC with mpv (great player!) and have had absolutely zero issues. I have the Plex Pass so hardware transcoding should work. It says on the activity feed that it's transcoding with HW (I believe that just means hardware accelerated encoding) and it just lags like crazy. It is horribly slow, and Plex crashes if I pause for more than a few seconds. Started watching another show which had ASS subtitles and the Plex player says it has to transcode because of the subtitles (PGS wasn't available from the content I downloaded). I was mostly using it to watch anime (I just get content from nyaa), got a Samsung T7 SSD to externally plug to the Shield. It's up to date and I have Plex & Plex Media Server configured. Got a Shield TV Pro the other day, the most recent model. ![]()
